Night GuardsBruxism is the fancy name for grinding or clenching your teeth. If you have bruxism, you may clench your teeth together during the day without even realizing it. Or you might clench or grind them at night (sleep bruxism).
Mild bruxism may not require treatment. But in some people, bruxism can be frequent and severe enough to lead to:
Jaw disorders
Headaches
Damaged teeth
Other problems
Because you may have sleep bruxism and be unaware of it, it’s important to know the signs and symptoms of bruxism, and to seek regular dental care. If we suspect bruxism based on signs and symptoms identified at your exam, we will recommend you consider a guard or bite splint.
A guard is a hard acrylic appliance that is custom made to fit the shape of your teeth. We recommend patients wear the guard when bruxism is most severe, typically at nighttime.
